Dear GBS Community,

I want to begin by thanking the Glenbrook South community for the outpouring of support we have received and the patience exhibited during the past few days. A great deal of work has been completed allowing school to resume on Monday, May 8, 2023. Please read this message in its entirety as it contains a lot of important information about reopening.

Cleaning and renovation crews removed all smoke from the building and the residual smell of smoke is minimal. Outside fans will continue to run to maximize fresh air circulating in the building. Additional information will be included in tomorrow’s weekly update to describe all of the efforts completed to prepare the building for school on Monday.

On Friday, more than 1400 students came to the building to retrieve their belongings. Students who were unable to pick up their items will be able to do so on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the beginning of the school day.

Here is a schedule for your reference:

  • Early Bird physical education and practices will meet as scheduled.
  • 8:00-8:05 a.m. – Block 4 Blue (All students will report to their Block 4 Blue)
  • 8:05-8:14 a.m. – Passing period
  • 8:14-9:33 a.m. – Block 1 Blue
  • 9:42 a.m. – Block 2 Blue and bell schedule will continue as normal

In addition, I want to provide you with the following information.

AP TESTING

  • AP Testing will resume on its regular schedule Monday.
  • Tests that were not completed on Thursday, May 4, 2023  or not taken on Friday, May 5, 2023 will be scheduled for the make up date.
  • Testing coordinators will provide additional information about exams scheduled for this week and the make up dates for missed exams.
  • Students who were AP testing when the fire alarm sounded and have not yet picked up their belongings should come to the main office at 8 am on Monday.

ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES

  • All after school activities and athletics will resume on their regular schedules.

CLASSROOM CHANGES

  • All wood working classes will be relocated and students will be notified of those changes through Google classroom.
  • The test center has been relocated to the library.
  • The bookstore has been relocated to the hallway outside of the test center, and will only be processing the payment of fees.
  • Portions of the school building will be closed off for ongoing cleaning and facility repairs.  Security personnel will be present in the area to assist students in accessing their classrooms.

I understand that due to the event on Thursday, students may need support. Students are encouraged to contact their school counselor or a member of the students services team. In addition, counseling services are available through the Glenbrook School Health Center at no cost to the student or family.

SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT

Thank you again for all your support and I look forward to seeing all the Titans on Monday.

Sincerely,
